A friend of ours has failed her WOF and one of the items is a scratch mark left by wiper arm.not deep at all and I was wondering if cutting compound would get this out. If not can anyone suggest a solution please.

Do you have insurance, many insurance companys have glass cover which normally has no excess. Claim on that if you have it, you pay enough for insurance may as well use it.

There is a section of Midas glass who specialise is polishing out scratches. From memory its about $60 and the rule of thumb is if you can feel it likely you can't get rid of it

Insurance plus rock makes for a nice new clean screen.

Try tooth paste it is slightly abrasive and will remove some marks.

Had many small stone chips in a windscreen causing sun-strike no matter how clean the screen was. Mentioned it at WOF time and it got failed because if it.
Because it was a WOF failure insurance covered it. Go figure.

I had exactly the same thing, lots of tiny chips and only noticeable when driving towards sun at day break or near sunset when it looked like the night sky on the windscreen.
I got several WOF's with it like that but the day it got rejected my appointment was late on in the day in winter when sun was real low shining into the end of the vehicle test bay.Insurance paid for that one no problems under the glass extension clause of the policy.
That was the only reject that particular car of mine had and the new screen made a hell of a big difference, ideally I should have had it replaced earlier but the WOF reject was proof for the insurance company that screen had to be replaced.
That should be the same in your case with your insurance!

Work insurance, but it was the same.
