Sadly the flith's word is somehow worth more than your average bloke's.cause that's fair and all _b lol

flashgordon_nz, Aug 12, 8:23pm
wizzbikz. what speed do you reckon you were doing!
Were you certain you were under 50! then fight it. if you think you were doing 60odd, then well done, pay up. but copping 73 if you are certain there is no point that you were doing 73, thats a bit harsh.
If you dont know what speed you were doing when he clocked you, but noted to 59 on the gps when slowing down, then take it on the chin mate.
I had a row on the side of the road, they reckoned 112kph. my gps logged 101 max speed from previous in the trip, so couldnt prove otherwise, but was in a truck (max speed capable 105/108, downhill. with a tail wind.), 600m out of the 50 zone, into the 100, well aware they were behind me, the pulled my over saying 112. no way in hell it was possible, so argued it.

GPS's never have and never will be an accurate speed indication.

turton, Aug 12, 8:48pm
please explain. from my understanding gps devices arepretty dam accurate (if given adequate signal).

kokako14, Aug 12, 10:35pm
What I cant work out, why arnt you watching where you are going, rather than looking at your GPS. Probably if you had been looking at the road, you would have seen the signs and probably the cop.
If you got a GPS, you have have money but now you have a bit less.Pay up dude

lugee, Aug 12, 10:55pm
Many reasons. First of all, the speed is sampled every x amount of time, so it looks at the distance traveled in such a sample and calculates the speed from that, so there's always gonna be a delay there, plus the fact that algorithm only does straight lines so cornering speed will always be slower. Also, AFAIK they don't account for increases in altitude, i.e. if you hypothetically travelled up a 45 degree slope at 100km/h, the GPS would report significantly less than that.

More than yours at any rate I'd say.

net_oz, Aug 13, 3:31am
Been there done that. I accept them too as i know i was over the alotted limit at the time. Like gammelvind says, don't come on here grizzling about it.

smac, Aug 13, 6:07am
What a bunch of sanctimonious gits. Unbelievable, even here.

Shouldn't have been looking at the GPS! Get a grip, your eyes never flick to the stereo! Or the clock! Or your MIRROR! All of those things mean looking away for the same amount of time.

As for "you were speeding, suck it up". So if any one of you were clocked by Police at 60 but you were certain you were doing 50, you'd just say "ahh well, I was speeding, I'd better pay.".

Muppets.

He's not on here grizzling about being caught speeding. He's asked a perfectly reasonable question about evidence, because he has reason to believe he wasn't doing the speed Police say he was.

gregelz, Aug 13, 8:21am
How do you know what sped your GPS was showing when the cop checked your speed !

Were you looking at the road or the GPS at the time.

Sounds like you saw the cop and went off the gas like everyone does then had a look at the GPS a few seconds later and it said 59km/h/

pieman33h, Aug 13, 9:47am
pretty sure with the eroad system i have in my trucks not only can i pin point the date, time and location of my vehicles at anytime, and print out a google maps page to prove it, it will also have the vehicles speed on it,

Now as these systems are used as an approved distance recorder, surely this information would be accurate enough to present in court in defense of a speeding charge for example!

fryan1962, Aug 13, 10:40am
My speedo is not working i use gps as speedo, I am also aware thatGPS are not legal speed recording devices so i drive a little under the displayed speed, works ok for me

carclan, Aug 13, 1:22pm
The flow of the traffic won't pay your speeding ticket. I got one for doing 56 km in a 50 km zone, it's my fault as I was in a stream of traffic too and should have held everyone else up.

outbidyou2, Aug 13, 1:34pm
Yep, that happened to me last year. You cant let people push you a long says mr plod,

esprit, Aug 13, 1:42pm
High-frequency GPS dataloggers are indeed a VERY accurate speed indication. In fact, it's what Formula one teams use to plan their strategies during a race and what every major car manufacturer and aotomotive magazine on the planet uses to derive performance figures.

Your average TomTom or Navman is rubbish, but GPS systems can be very speed/acceleration accurate if they're so designed.

Pay Up
Shut Up
and Slow down FFS

pebbles61, Aug 13, 3:39pm
I guess so, I mean I don't wear a pretty blue uniform lol

It just kinda annoys me that the system says "this bloke's word is better than yours simply because he's a cop"
