A few cars I have owned that depreciated faster 2002 SRI Astra new $37Ktraded at 3 years 18000KM$13K 2005 Jeep Cherokee New $52K traded at 3 years 45000KM$23K 2008Landrover Freelander2 New $82K traded at 3 years 60000KM $31k
A rule of thumb I count on 60% deprecitation over the first 3 years. Part of the joy of owning a new car.

Yea but then if you wait another 3 years after that they will have the mid cycle face lift version out so why not wait for that! If you want a new car now, buy now. Who knows you may get hit by a bus tomorrow.

Yes, But I enjoy my cars and I can afford to. I do not regret any one of the purchases.

Whats the point in throwing money away when you know for certain a new model is due for release in the next 12 months. And because its a brand new model it wont be updated for quite a while.

Based on your choices , I await comment from many others !

Those are only some of the cars over that period,They suited MY needs at the time. I really dont care what you and other may think of my choices. The one vehicle I lost the greatest % depreciation on was a Toyota. From $30k to $350 in 7 years and it was not involved in any accidents.

The points people have made about rapid depreciation, plus the new model coming soon, plus the fact that the Honda is still a comfortable, reliable (if somewhat boring) mode of transport has led me to maintain the status quo.
Thank you all and especially those who saved me a bucket load of dosh!:-)

No - Hilux Surf with a 2L-T, the super reliable never breaks go for ever motors

anyone with half a brain knows the 2L-T is a lemon

That doesnt stack up. A surf is worth more than $350 even if it is crushed and cubed. Even a surf with a blown motor is still worth a couple of grand. Exagerate much!

Hindsight is brilliant, In 1991 they still had a reputation for being reliable. and now I note that you are saying the great almighty Toyota made lemons.

should i correct you, in 1991 the toyota 2L/3L had a reputation for being reliable
