Half price rego

ava3, Sep 15, 7:50pm
Hi I have a old toyota which is going to be 40 years old next year was just wondering when the half price rego's come in! is it the start of the year this happens or is it when it was first registered! thanks

brokebloke1, Sep 15, 7:55pm
when it was first registered in New Zealand,

ava3, Sep 15, 7:56pm
ok thanks for that

Nah mate, its the age of car regardless of when it was registered in NZ. Ive got a 1969 XW GT here that was imported into NZ and registeredin 1989, still gets cheap rego as its over 40.

It's a play on words isn't it.
If it's an import, then you must have proof of it's first overseas rego. (which it should have anyway)

The bonus with the 40 year old rego is that it's based on the "birth year". You don't hav to wait for it's "birthday" to enjoy the rego. e.g. First reg'd December 1972 has been eligible since January 2012. Time your rego renewal dates and you're smiling !

Yeah it is eligible from the 1st of january next year. Thats when the XA is cheap too!1!

That's where mine cocked up - born 14 Dec 72, but not rego'd until 5 Jan 73. My next rego is due 11 Jan 2013. Funny that happened!

Not age of car but first year it was registered, in any country.

dr.doolittle, Sep 15, 9:55pm
And it's not "Half price rego".

akaniva, Sep 15, 9:58pm
That's right, my 1933 car was imported and qualified for cheap rego straightaway at initial registration after vinning.

What is the cost of rego for a 40 plus year old vehicle for a year!

lookoutas, Sep 15, 10:16pm
But you weren't.

jason18, Sep 15, 11:23pm
Whoops I read what you wrote wrong haha

pebbles61, Sep 15, 11:53pm
$117 I think, off the top of my head

ema1, Sep 16, 12:02am
Mine has been since 2005 .1965 Mercedes Benz 220SE.
Not exactly half but actually a lot less than half the cost of any younger than 40.
Less than 40 are about $288 and more than 40 are around $112 from memory.

pebbles61, Sep 16, 12:21am
The savings in rego are soon eaten up by spares lol :D

bellky, Sep 16, 12:25am
Yeah but driving old car is priceless :)

The application form MR27 is the one to use when re licensing a car/van over 40 years old and as far as I know you can only do it at a Post Office or other re licensing agency.
The Merc is on exemption right now but was on 40 year and older a short time ago and I did it at the Post Office at that point in time, though Ido my exemptions and re license my younger than 40 cars online.

jason18, Sep 16, 12:42am
Hell yeah would rather pay for something I can use than rego haha

pebbles61, Sep 16, 6:31am
Pretty much, hence why I only own old cars _b

smac, Sep 16, 6:45am
MR27 can be used for any age vehicle. Lets you pick how long to licence for rather than 3/6/12mth that's all.
