I have a hot little European hatch, turbocharged. Recommended 98, minimum permitted, 91.

When I fill it using 98 (which I do wherever it's available) it runs slightly better and gets better mileage.

Had a Mitsi Diamante .it ran like crap on 91.better on 95.best on 98.
My injected v8 runs best on 95 or 98. it doesnt like 91 (sluggish)or a 95-98 biofuel mix.(.runs on and splutters)
The missus 1000cc toyota runs primo on 91 but I dont think a higher grade would bother it (vvti) or improve its already remarkable efficiency
All the mixes used are as recomended my the manufacturer.

I haven't done the sums, but I very much doubt it.
At a guess I'd say it offsets it by about 5c.

Great site. I use it for both my cars.

used 91 in a 97 Turbo Skyline for cost reasons then came the engine problems, mainly sparkies changed to 98 and hasn't skipped a beat since.

So 98 all the way as it will save me trouble in the long run.

Every car I've owned I've noticed better economy/mileage out of 95/98, and more so Shell and BP. I've personally found, on several cars over many years, Caltex and Mobil to be the worst for mileage when compared to BP and Shell.

In saying that, I haven't really owned any nanna cars as such, they've all had at least two cams and more then 2 valves a cylinder!

i used 98 in my fxr150, made quite a good power difference, didnt test the fuel economy though. and u could notice it cuz it was so gutless. i use 95 in my galant cuz its gdi. most my other crappy normal cars i just used 91 though

I have to use 95-98, my Golf VR6 has a factory german sticker showing 95 +, the CRX is turbo at 9.5 - 1 Compression, my Prelude Vtec is 10.6-1 Compression, on anything lower then 95 it gets pinging when taking off at the lights.
That article might mean something if you drive a 1989 Corolla 1.3XL heh
