Suzuki Swift XE automatic 2011 fuel consumption

macmar, Jan 20, 8:33am
we have just done a check on the car for fuel consumption just general running around and it worked out at 8.02 litres per 100 km travelled.we were disappointed - anyone else done a check!thanks.

Swift Sport manual here city driving 7.9L/100km, it gets better on a trip though.

Is the car properly run in yet!

Ours is sitting at 6.5L/100km average. Does good runs though not just round town.

8L/100k in busy traffic / town driving sounds about right for your car, since its automatic, there's always load on the engine when stopped in traffic.

My cars averaging 13.8L/100k around town. hopefully that makes you feel better :)

Yeah it depends on where you are driving.

Either way that auto transmission is going to be costing you.

If you are doing a lot of stop start and a lot of short trops and lots of low speed driving that's not bad.

Thanks everyone.I have done just over 7,000kms in it.we also have a 2004 Mondeo automatic which recently did 6.8l per 100km on a trip which we thought was really good, I guess that is why I was surprized at the Suzuki outcome.most trips I do would be in the 20k region.

There is a really big difference in fuel consumption between "just general running around" and a trip.

vtecnet, Jan 21, 1:09am
for the 1st 10mins of driving from cold, the car is using way more fuel then it does once its warmed up.
so the 1st 5km of your 20km trip could be well over 10L/100k.

Ie, my BMW 528i averages 13.8L/100k around town, but if I reset the computer when its cold its sitting around 20L/100k until the cars warmed up.

suzukis seem to be very thirsty my dad has an sx4 and it is driven very quietly butis way thirstier than my falcon, also we bought a small car a couple of years ago and when comparing the swift against other the thing that stuck out was how thirsty the swift was, they are way overated

peacebird15, Jan 21, 1:46am
My little truck does 25l to 100km. our 1.8 baleno on the road does 7/100

vtecintegra, Jan 21, 2:17am
How were you making that comparison!

sred69, Jan 21, 2:50am
we average 6.8 Lt/100k 1.3 auto 2006 swift that is only used around town.

All very interesting thank you

Drove a2012 manual Swift which had done 3000 kms. It was displaying 5.8 lt/100 from new.

we test drove them and official figures from dealer info noted, we ended up buying a fiesta

The SX4 is permanent 4-wheel-drive, which obviously increases fuel use.But there's no way it would be thirstier than a falcon when driven the same way in the same conditions - that's simply rubbish. Also, the latest Swift (I think the XE is previous generation) has a far more economical engine than before.I drove an auto version with about 5,000kms on the clock, and achieved 5.5 l/100km in a few days of around town driving.VERY economical.

casper35, Jan 21, 8:40pm
I get 8.20 out of my 05 xr6 falcon.

3tomany, Jan 21, 8:48pm
falcon is miles ahead of sx4 and you are right about driving differance my falcon gets thrashed and tows a tandem trailer. the sx4 gets driven by an old man that never tows, the sx4 cant get close to xr6 fuel consumption in any conditions 4x4 doesnt help

vtecintegra, Jan 21, 9:44pm
Must have been the old Swift vs new Fiesta http://right.cr/20792-118-122-6725

That said the Fiestas are definitely impressive little cars

3tomany, Oct 14, 4:11pm
2010 model of both the swift, swift sport and fiesta we drove demo models of all and fiesta was miles ahead even though we realy wanted a swift sport having already bought a new jimny and sx4 of the same dealer but fiesta was just to good for the swift to be any competition
