One listing said it needs a new hood lining. Another listing said the hood lining immaculate which is unusual for E36
So what is a hood lining !

Thanks for that, I couldn't see how it would be of major importance if it was damaged and needed replacing, why would it be costly to glue back on again

Its not a 5 min job. You don't reuse the material.

if you aren't fussy you can pin or glue it up yourself - will look terrible though

I've done a few, they're easy enough if you know what you're doing and get the right fabric. Generally if you remove it yourself and take it to somebody you'll get away with $300, that should be the upper limit

There's a few replacement head linings that you can buy and swap out for yours for around $120-$150.coupe non-sunroof ones are getting pretty rare though

Man last hood lining replacement cost me $120 drive in drive out. That was 10 years ago though.
