Car getting a few Km on now the oil they say to use is 10w / 30 but find it is burning it and have to top up would using say 5w/ 40 be better for the car

perhaps try better quality oil first. what you using atm!

zak1998, Oct 11, 7:53pm
was using CastrolEdge 10w/30 Titanium

Your problem is very common on high km engines AND using a full synthetic oil.
It's SIMPLY too slippery for a worn engine.
Go to a reasonable quality MINERAL based 20/30 or 20/40 oil
Most are speced at 20/40 & is the single most common oil grade used

yea don't waste money on titanium if its burning it, any castrol 15/40 would be my pick.

Try Magnetec its worked great in all my vehicals.

try switching to castrol gtx, its abit thicker and should help cut down the oil consumption, but keep in mind no band-aid in a bottle is going to cure the problem, just keep an eye on oil level and keep topping up when needed

How much topping up is needed between changes!

Penrite 15W-60 improved a very smokey mitsi.

zak1998, Oct 12, 6:24am
about 1.5 litres per 10,000 km

johnf_456, Oct 12, 6:28am
that's hardly nothing to what some cars use.

splinter67, Oct 12, 6:34am
Its knackard you should sell it to me for cheap lol

unbeatabull, Oct 12, 6:41am
What is the car in question!

clark20, Oct 12, 8:28am
Mitsi would not warranty any vehicle unless it burnt 1L/1000km, we had a smoky L300 van under 3 years old and they wouldnt do anything.

Penrite 25w70 works even better,
I had to use it in my shitbox starlet to get a wof today. lol

panicky, Oct 12, 8:31am
Penrite also make HPR 50, which is 40w70

cpnnz, Oct 12, 11:55am
I actually tried that in an old corolla last winter. Stopped the smoke, but oil was so thick cold, you could hardly rev it until it warmed up!
