Morris Minor Traveller Tyres

persh, Oct 20, 9:08pm
Hi All
Does anyone know where I can get a set of new tyres for a Morris Minor Woody that I'm restoring! I'm after 155/14 or 165/14 full profile radial tyres and want to have an authentic brand - Michelin, Avon, Dunlop etc - not Chinese brand (wouldn't look right!). Most tyre manufacturers don't list these anymore but someone out there may know of some new old stock tyres hidden away somewhere!
Cheers
Lance

have you tried Basis in Blenheim to see if they know! Your local club could help too. Swift auto in chch does mini stuff but he may know of a supplier

There's a couple of options for you.I admire your dedication to trying to find a correct tyre but I bet you get an aweful fright when you find the price.Like others have said I would think a Minor would have been on crossplys rather than radials.

i would think that the 145/155 14 in radial would be the type of thing you would find on a french car - Citroen Renault etc - so if you can find an olld school Citroen dealer they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your suggestions guys - and I agree, to be 100% original crossplys would be the way to go - but these normally cost even more than radials! And being a traveller, I believe that the latter cars were produced with radials.

Hi Supanova2
Already tried Peter at Classic Tyres - all he could do was Nanking 155/14 from china - nice guy though and very helpful.

Sometimes i think there needs to be a bit of a compromise on "safety" items like tyres, brakes, lights etc.

As an example my 54 snipe will be fitted with a booster and radials when I get there. The tyres may well be china ones as lets face it its not likely that a restored clasic, unless its a E-type or similar, is going to be a performace vehicle. The rest of the car is as it left the factory apart from blinkers and H4 lights.I've still got the tripod lucas lights stashed away but for everyday use it runs the H4s.Its still running the jenny which almost copes but reluctant to fit an alternator as then it obviously wont look right under the bonnet.

Yeah - I might have to resort to Chinese made tyres but hopefully I can avoid it!

Good luck with that I chased around for tyres to fit my Minxs stock rims, too much drama I fitted Peugeot 406 steelies with 205-60-15 tyres improved the handling no end I changed the diff ratio to suit the 15cm rollout loss and it cruises at the speed limit quite happily
