Where to get a red tail light lens from?

It needs to be at least 70mm diameter and at least 70mm deep.
Don't ask what it's for because it's too weird!

saxman99, Oct 24, 7:44pm
What's it for!

trade4us2, Oct 24, 7:46pm
It's to go over a light bulb. There's one at each end of the vehicle, and the red lens has to be moved when the vehicle is going backwards.

Pick a part as you only need 1

you used to be able to get a rubber one with a replaceable lens each side for mounting on a trailer mudguard. but I suppose there is now a law not allowing them.

What about a cover off a flashing safety light! There are quitefew sorts and they've come down in price now so could be an option. Try safety shops or auto places. I'd go to NZ Safety or similar or TWL for a start.

Also that way you'll get a mounting if you need it, just butcher the insides to suit yourself.

IT's OK, I have found some red film. I'll make a frame to put over the headlamps, which are about 600mm diameter.

trade4us2, Oct 25, 6:11am
It's 550mm wide.But that's quite a big tail light!

You said it was weird.
Why do you wanta go frontwards backwards!
Or coming when ya going!

trade4us2, Oct 25, 6:55am
All vehicles go forwards and backwards. This one can't turn around, so has to be driven backards. The headlights and tail lights have to be reversed.

That looks like a Toledo Rule :)

edangus, Oct 25, 7:59am
Red tinted Perspex!

That's not cheap is it! The film I have will do.
More pics on Sunday! You'll wish you were there.

edangus, Oct 25, 8:47am
Not too bad though, will last for a long time.

trade4us2, Oct 25, 9:22pm
The tail light is just above this. I'll bet this will melt Perspex:

Not a bet I am willing to take.you win.

Surely there must be someone out there who can do a tempered glass with a tint.

lookoutas, Oct 26, 4:42am
So it must be something pretty big-arsed.
My 2 bobs worth; Why not have headlights & taillights mounted on both ends, but with their own separate switches & wiring systems!

mantagsi, Oct 26, 5:57am
+1, sounds like a good idea. If it is some steam powered vehicle it probably isn't cheap by virtue of being one of those odd and expensive types of beasties, so the cost would be worth it surely!

trade4us2, Oct 26, 5:58am
Yes it's about 30 tonnes and has no steering wheel. It's just easier to drive it backwards.
All shouldbecome clear in a few days. If it doesnt make TV news I shall be very annoyed.

fordcrzy, Oct 26, 7:34am
tank!

40wav, Oct 26, 7:43am
Why not make that the tail light! I bet you would be the only one in the country who people will REALLY obey the 2 second rule.

lookoutas, Oct 26, 9:15pm
Woo - didn't look at that picture before.

trade4us2, Oct 27, 11:03am
Oh well, the tail light worked OK:

It actually is red, my camera makes it yellow.
