Electronic Auto Transmission, auto is just that, power simply alters the shift points so it changes up later in the revs and changes down quicker, hold will hold it in the gear you select and won't change down even if you go full throttle.

On my parents J30 import Maxima the "hold" position meant it started off in 2nd gear rather than first, then changed to 3rd when required, for moving off in icy or snowy conditions. The NZ new J30 Maximas had a "comfort" position instead of hold, which started off in 1st gear like normal, but changed gear sooner than it would have in power. Auto means that if you put your foot hard down to accelerate it reverts to power setting and gives you more revs before changing, whereas if you accelerate normally it reverts to normal revs between changes.Of course, economy is affected dependant on the driving style.
