After years of having crappy cars, I bought a 2002 318i BMW. Wow, its amazing. It was $12,000, they were $80,000 new. It drives like a dream, and people look at you differently when your in them. Strange men are smiling at me, must think Im rich or something (Im not).Should have got one when I was single lol. Done all the reasearch and looked at reviews. I will never have another car except the beemer. My next trade in will be the BMW Roadster, beat the ferrari in the Top Gear Road tests. Life is sweet.

E46s are great cars. One funny thing is I've found the 328i to be about as good on gas as the M43/44(!) motors in them, and much more reliable.
Superb to drive aren't they!

Uh oh, the nicest guy on the forum just dropped in ;-( Enjoy your Beemer. We have friends with one (an M). Very good car - all those features for a reasonable price and good economy.

Owned a 1985 E30 BMW 320i about 15 years ago, loved it. Cruise or brisk driving it was great at both, was a bit thirsty but that was offset by smiles per miles.
And #5 - Your opinion is worth about as much as your IQ.

#11- They were about $76,000 up, & $106,600 for a 330i. BMW's are still grossly overpriced new in NZ.

Look after it and get it serviced on time and it should last, get the cooling system checked out, the plastic pipes are at the age where they like to crack,(Thermostat housing etc also).
They are cheap to replace, but if left, you could be up for a huge bill. they are made out of recycled plastic, which isn't long lasting and is the kind of thing that will cause the car to overheat and leave you stuck on the side of the road.
I would also recommend getting the car scanned to get for errors, as it can give you an indication if you have sensors that need replacement,
I'd also get the automatic transmission serviced, the fluid in it is now 10 years old and won't have been changed, as they are supposedly filled with "Lifetime" fluid, however this isn't intended to last for ever.
I have owned many BMW's and speak from experience.
Maybe I'm too fussy, but I've never broken down in 17 years of driving.

hahaha belky, on ya mate! Almost like part of the furniture. Always something interesting to say. Livens things up otherwise it would be like a bmw glee club, and thats coming from a big beemer fan. Might take issue with e46 being the best midsize car tho'. e39 would fight hard for that title

Which Ferrari and which Roadster! I mean I'm a beemer fan but I think the only roadster capable of coming near a Ferrari is the z8 (I think it was) but which Ferrari did it beat! 360! 430!

Oh just realised, m6 Roadster might be the one. Probably capable of giving a 430 a hurry up.

A work colleague has a 2002 318i Motorsport with the manual gearbox. Very impressive car but firm riding being the Motorsport version. He loves it. Great on gas too with its 2 litre valvetronic engine.
