What is the cost for yearly rego's on older cars?

tonyt_nz, Nov 30, 5:55am
Someone told me cars 30years or older had a really low rego cost, i think they said $75 year!! is this correct, i wouldnt have thought so! Nothing on NZTA in fees about it.

unbeatabull, Nov 30, 5:58am
I thought it was 40 years.

meathead_timaru, Nov 30, 6:00am
It is 40 years.

meathead_timaru, Nov 30, 6:02am
And it's over $130/year.

franc123, Nov 30, 6:16am
Completely wrong on both counts, funny you sometimes see late 70's early 80's cars for sale on here with just that in the listing, where it comes from is anyones guess. Must be yet another unsubstantiatedboyracer myth being bandied about by those trying to get several thousand for their scrap material KE30 Corollas lol.

Over 30 years old qualifies to belong to Vintage Car Club

Over 40 years old qualifies for cheaper rego

Edit to say Vintage Car Club was responsible for getting the ACC levy reduced many years ago after proving their members were seldom involved in accidents , so thanks to them

directorylist, Nov 30, 7:21am
it use to be $70 back in 2004, i think its $113 now!

Also you're exempt from continuious licensing, and it takes 2 years of being unlicensed for your plates to go dormant

trader_84, Nov 30, 7:45am
A sticky . like on the HAMB.

tuttyclan, Nov 30, 8:07am
$111.59 for 12 months for a private car over 40 years old.

akaniva, Nov 30, 8:09am
Correct, I just got 12 months rego on my 1936 car today.

msigg, Nov 30, 8:22am
tutty is correct.

neville48, Nov 30, 9:53am
The best part is the exemption, you only have to register for any special function you are out at and can be dormant the rest of the time, cool huh. methinks they should bring in regos for sunny days only so you dont have to pay for rainy days when I dont drive my cars.

daryl14, Nov 30, 6:51pm
In the case of a 40 year old bike, does the cc rating cause a price rise at 650cc the same as bikes under 40!

That's one question that's never been answered here.

meathead_timaru, Nov 30, 9:52pm
Sorry, that was for non-petrol driven vintage.

meathead_timaru, Nov 30, 9:56pm
600cc. And no it doesn't. It's a vintage motor vehicle regardless of engine capacity.

daryl14, Dec 1, 6:47pm
