Don't think the DnL guide recommends any car I've ever had LOL.I trust the replies an here more than the winker at DnL. Apparently, the Nissan Largo I've had for 9 years and done 250,000 Kms in should never have lasted more than a week. To be honest, the only really BAD car I ever had was a Subaru. But I guess I'll never know about the Cavalier, 'cos I don't think I'll be buying it. Thanks for all the useful and not so useful advice.

Cefiro for sure.Mines now done 180,000ks (90,000 done by me). Very little has gone wrong, and it's a smooth and comfortable car to drive (mines the 2.5).Hopefully all of these electical problems endangus is wishing upon it don't eventuate ! My sister has one at 280,000 which hasn't had any major issues - although it DID have some problem with one of the coil packs !

Thank you all. Bought the '98 Cef 2ltr. Which seemed like the best option. Although I haven't actually seen it yet.

Which would you pick! same year/condition/K's and price. Even virtually same engine size (2.5 ltr).

I'd pick anything, yes even a Multipla, over a Cavalier. ymmv.

this ones a no brainer. Cefiro is a far better car

Neither, both are problematic vehicles, the Cavalier is definately the worse of the two though.
You would be better off driving an 80s Telstar / 626

You're kidding, right!

That's interesting. I've had a Cefiro before, drove it for 60-70,000 Km's without any issues. But never had a Cavalier - which is why I asked.

The Cavalier is not made by Toyota.

Chevrolet Cavalier with a Toyota badge glued on it. Lacks the Toyota reliability.

Cefiros problematic! Have to disagree

Don't know anybody who ever had a problem with a Cefiro. I'm talking late 90's/early 2000's, not the old RWD ones. But I'm asking because I'm tossing up between the 2 cars I asked about and I'm not familiar with the Cavalier. It will be a spare car, used about 4 or 5 times a year when we visit son to save hiring one or driving there and back.

Well yes and no, if ya going to drive a POS it may as well be a nostalgic one

Thats OK, I have only had electrical issues with them, other than that they are fine.

Cavalier. You can't go wrong with anything with a Toyota badge on it. Right!
fiatracer,
Dec 31, 1:45am
You can't really trust the cavalier to operate 4 or 5 times a year.

Thanks. Most useful so far. I guess I already had an idea what would turn out. But to comment on one of the posts in the other thread, yes it is a 2000 model, Low K's, and under 2 grand.
