Rego lapsed, needs recomplying

I'm considering buying a car with a rego that lapsed 4 years ago. It's a 2006 model, low mileage, NZ new and completely unmodified. What is involved to get a vehicle recomplied and what are the likely costs! Also who does this! Cheers

VTNZ VINZ and AA do compliance checks,

From what i understand compliance checks on vehicles first registered after 1991 involve pulling things to pieces. Has it been registered in NZ before!

Shop around re-pricing, i was looking at certifying an old 1973 triumph, VTNZ quoted $500 VINZ quoted $195.

Pop in and see them (make sure that branch does compliance checks first) I had a chat with the guy at VTNZ, he was really helpful.

Allow some extra money for things they find that they want replaced. Don't be surprised if things like brakes are failed even if just a bit worn.
