FAQ
Q There are places where I drive and my radar detector goes off with no police in sight. Why!
A The FCC in the USA and ITU in NZ allows other uses on radar bands used by police. Most commonly this is found on X band (10.525 GHz) and it is called a false alert. Some common false alerts are caused by automatic door openers, burglar alarms, terrestrial microwave towers. Poorly made radar detectors in other cars can also cause your detector to false alert. No radar detector is completely "false alert" proof.

This is on SH27. there is nothing else around.!
The detector is a passport 8500, I have one in my ute and one on my bike.
The 8500 is a good detector, like its not a cheapie.

It's the led sign doing it, I had a Valentine 1 and everytime I drove past one of those info signs when it was displaying a led message, it would go off as well as driving past shop doors, apparently you can disable the band that causes it.
