Mechanics-Advice

I've got a van. Drives perfectly. Can drive on the flat, temperature gauge never moves. Drive up a hill, temperature gauge rises. I've had my mechanic replace the "viscous fan" I still have the same problem. Could the replacement viscous fan be faulty! When should I hear the viscous fan kick in! Cheers Smithy.

I would be pulling the radiator out and getting it stripped and cleaned.

that van goes good normally!could be thermostat or a gunged up radiator

Hi JC!!991 Toyota HiAce. I've had it for ten years. Drives like a dream. Radiators been flushed.

Stay away from hills.

Flushed as in removed from the vehicle and sent to a specialist!

Thanks for the advice.

hey mate, go and see eddie. radiator might need a rod or at the worst a rebuild. $400ish at petone radiators. hope its not a cracked head! its the 3litre 5l motor in it eh.

No. Hose connected and flushed "this way & that way"

Hi Tim. Yeah I deal with Al at Petone Radiators. I've had this problem for a little while, hence why I got the viscous fan replaced. (I drive to Hastings monthly in it. As long as I go via the Levin direction, no movement in the temperature gauge. There and back) I'm not using any water, hence I don't think it's a cracked head. It's bloody annoying.

You would be better suited to see a radiator specialist, have the radiator removed, rodded out, and refitted. was around the $15o mark last time I priced it. Flushing with a hose won't do squat.

fordkiwi27, Mar 26, 6:57am
yep al would be the man to see.

getting it rodded best bet but ask for quote first some times its just as cheap to replace radiator (as told by a radiator specialist the other day)
