If at the moment, there's nothing wrong with your vehicle.
I'd leave it like that.

What was involved in 'building up mounts'!
If its welding. Welding is a real time sucker.

You can weld for a while and turn around and find a hour or mores gone past.

I would ask for a breakdown but cost of job seems fair to me.

gabbysnana, Jan 10, 8:33am
and they have a right to charge you for their time inolved in breaking down their costs to satisfy your curiosity,so factor that in.

intrade, Jan 11, 9:34pm
okWhom do you usea guy cuttingyour lawn whom charges
one=5$ per h !or
two= a guywhom charges 50$ per h!

marte, Jan 12, 5:58am
The $5/hr guys probably a kid who does not have overheads, pays no taxes, borrowed a lawnmower off someone else, probably with petrol in it already.
They will now your lawn, it will have stripes and hollows in the lawns finish, they won't edge the lawn, or cut stray weeds, or spray with weedkiller.
They will also leave the clippings somewhere on your property. If they damage their lawnmower somehow, they will not finish doing the lawn. They will also take several hours to do it.

The $50 guy will have a helper, they will cut the lawn nice and flat with no stray cuttings and no lines. Their lawnmowers will be quiet and quick.
They will do a run around the edges and trim off any stray grass from the edges as well as edging the lawn, they will vacuum the edges afterwards.
They will possibly use weedkiller to kill the weeds and stop new ones growning.
They will take away the lawnclippings and any weeds.
They can identify weeds and molds and spray for them as a extra.
They will be finished in 60minutes and have a nice trailer and vehicle and matching overalls, you will not see any 'butt cracks' and they will no rest or engage in joking or horseplay.

so after 25 minute theysaidyour not going to charge us 3h for that areyou!
hesaid well do you want meto walk around kicking tyrestill the 3h are up.
it is the same thing as the lawn guys . one guy has 300,000$ worth of factoryscantoolsand knows how to use it , he will bedone and dusted in no time with no comeback
so whycant he charge 3h minimum labourits not like the other5 shops found the problem in 25 minutes when he got called aslast resort.

Yep, this is the problem. The customer sees an hourly rate, not productivity.

So the man with basic tools, a van, and a mechanics creeper, will of course be cheaper BY THE HOUR than the man with a tens of thousands of dollars worth of workshop, lathe, hoists, scantools and so on.

Its time trades stopped charging by the hour. Try and pin a lawyer down to an hourly rate - they will quote you one, but it will never be on the invoice.

headcat, Jan 12, 7:01am
Get a lawyer involved and see how far your $500 goes then.
