Whats the best buy cortina mk 2.3.4.5 or ecort 1300 or 1600 all between 1975 to 1980 i quite like ghia models

muzz67, Dec 31, 6:54pm
I like the Mk3 shape, but would rather drive an '80 1600 sport.

skin1235, Dec 31, 7:18pm
the coke bottle, Mk2?, drop a 5 sp in and leave the old 3.2 diff in there

the ghia models were falcons put through a hot wash

the escorts were a slight upgrade shape to the prefect 105E and looked it
( anglia was a prefect dropped on its arses from 5 mts up, same 105E power plant ( or power weed depending on your love for gardening or not)

bill-robinson, Dec 31, 7:30pm
mk3 escort that has been bought up to gartrac G6 specs

tgray, Dec 31, 8:42pm
Escorts are far more desirable than Cortinas.
Going for big money now.

xs1100, Dec 31, 9:38pm
all though a good mk5 Cortina sport will always be popular if you can find one

franc123, Dec 31, 10:07pm
You mean big money is being ASKED. Its difficult to see why, most of the ones for sale are molested base model 4 doors and not worth sod all IMO, tidy original Sport and Ghia versions are the desirable ones, not bogged up 1300L's that the seller thinks is terrific. Same with Cortina, 2000E mk3, Ghia Mk4 and 5 and S pack Mk5 are all nicer better equipped more comfortable better looking cars than a base Escort.

edangus, Dec 31, 10:20pm
Mark 5 Ghia for Me thanks. Or if you really want something Desirable. Mark 3 or 4 Cortina with the Straight 6.

contagious, Dec 31, 10:25pm
Thanks so far i have modern cars as my daily driver im in my very late 70 want a weekend toy a bit more later models than my now sold older classics

mals69, Dec 31, 10:29pm
Escort for handling ! Mk 3 1600 cortina under-powered not good handling, mk 4 , 5 1600 prob under-powered for body size too ?
Mk 1 cortina nice and light and can get them handling well with good tyres.
MK2 1600 quite peppie motor in the day.

pettal, Jan 1, 12:19am
Dont forget the mk3 1300 cortina = now that was under powered !

mals69, Jan 1, 12:50am
Shudder to think how under-powered

nightboss, Jan 1, 1:04am
Does not sound like you know Cortinas or Escorts very well there.

tgray, Jan 1, 1:07am
I agree, having had a Cortina mk1, 2, 3 and 5 in my youth.
Out of the four I owned over the years, my favourite would have to be the MK2 GT.
Funny that, as it cost me $2250 and the MK5 cost me $13,000

joanie32, Jan 1, 1:30am
I drove a immaculate 2000E recently. Original except for 14" alloys. Still a lovely old car to drive, and surprisingly quicker than I remembered them.

nightboss, Jan 1, 1:30am
I had many Escorts "back in the day".
Favourites were Mk1 1300 Sport, Mk2 2.0 Ghia (Aussie model) and most favourite was Mk2 Estate I put a Sierra DOHC and 5speed box into.

My brothers were into their Cortinas at the same time so got to know both well.

kevymtnz, Jan 1, 1:39am
Cortina MK3 pef GT or 5
Escort MK1 2 door

mals69, Jan 1, 4:24am
Had mk 1, 2, 3 cortina - fav mk 1 - nice handling car
Grannie had the 1100 escort and use to rev the shite out of it
just getting it out of the carport, went good for 1100 - cracker
manuals in escorts.

I'd go for mk 1 gt cortina
Escort mexico

magoo2, Jan 1, 5:57am
What kind of nana worries about cars not having airbags .FFS most of my cars don't even have seatbelts

tgray, Jan 1, 6:14am
As far as GT desirability is concerned, the MK1 would surely be on top, BUT the regular MK1 looks, feels and drives like a very old car (which it is).
My 1965 1500cc had manual 4 speed column change and I never liked that.
My 1968 1600cc MK2 GT was far superior in every way and boy was it fast!
My MK3 I had converted to CNG (yes, I know!) but that was what everyone was doing in the 80's.
After one ill advised down shift on the motorway, I seized the engine.
Never mind.
My 1981 2L MK5 Ghia was a very nice car and gave me no problems.

mals69, Jan 1, 7:15am
Mk 1 shod with s211's firestone was the go - out handled
mk 2 I had - with mk 1 being much lighter always a good thing.
Mk 1 could out drag fiat 125 twin cam to 50 mph then fiat would
take over. But yep mk 2 go real well !

Use to like mk2 shape back in day but think mk 1 got more character
these days. Each to their own - both good cars and no doubt you
got plenty of fond memories of adventures in yours too .

Mk 1 escort with Seirra 2l & 5 speed , mildly warmed up I bought a rusted out seirra for $ 300 & escort with no motor or box for $250 & made a good little Q car . fully certified & regretted selling it

xs1100, Jan 2, 6:36am
yes had a mk2 with a 2.0 and man they could fly. still see the house it ended up in the side of LOL wet road and 2 much power

nightboss, Jan 2, 9:17am
Don't lay blame on the car if the operator is faulty.
