Upgrade to 4 wheel discs. Q's re boosters etc.

angelab, May 25, 4:27am
SR2, Socram etc. Am I on the right track? The old Mopar is single circuit drums, old style booster pushing back thru the firewall above the m/cyld. I'm not too interested in pedal box changes (ratio etc) but there is no room for a single or dual diaphram booster behind where the new Master cyld will go with the head in the way. I am thinking 2 x VH40 type boosters , one each front and rear, mounted on the inner guard. Does that sound OK? Front will be AU hats with VT calipers, (PBR 2 x42mm = 60mm) Rear is 8.8" ex exploder, single 48mm. Guess I need an adjustable proportioning v/v in the back end? I will see if later falcon calipers will mount the same on the diff, with 40-42mm pistons but will work with what I have. Yes, It will be certed. What does" Fast-fill" mean on some master cylds? I was thinking 1" dia the same as what a 10 yr old Falcodore has would be the starting point to match the rest? Any opinions or pointers welcome. This is it here.

Thanks guys. Vaughan.

I would do everything to get a OE booster in there first, those VH40 boosters can be touchy and lack feel, there are some small ones from Hondas that may fit

angelab, May 25, 6:03am
Cheers Clark. Everything that is running that sized calipers in a full size car that I have seen, has a single 12" or dual 8" diaphram OE, for a reason I am guessing. The Vh series were on OEM stuff as well. Hillman grunters and the like, I still remember working on them when I was on the Automotive tools. Even the 8" dual isnt going to fit and I just cannot see a small car combo supplying enough volume for big twin potters. There is another 5000cc and more under the hood over the civic and close to double the weight.

What specifically IS the ole more power?
mmmm

Yeah, Clark. I looked at those, they get used a bit for clean firewalls on the plastic 32's etc so I have seen them. Bit of a beggar to fill. It is quite busy under the dash of the Chrysler with the heater, pushbutton auto stuff and the awesome electroluminescent dash.
Snoopy, At last a post of yours I can read! Haha. 1960 Chrysler windsor 2 door hardtop, factory big block. It.'s the car in the link of the first post. Scroll down for more photos of its playmates. moparregistery.co.nz have some nice porn. mine are #962,963,964 and 965

I was going to suggest a van type assembly but i think you just ruled that out in post 7. Some of the euro stuff thats RHD have remote boosters or remote tanks or just about remote everything. Something from that type of thing might help you.

Didn't late'90s Range Rovers have electric boosters? I had one and it was terrible as one had no power assist for the first few moments after starting the engine, but perhaps it's an option to discount?

unclejake, May 26, 9:21am
Th Range Rover had a pressure sphere from memory, but this looks like a way better idea!: http://powerbrakeservice.net/bosch-hydromax.html

Personaly i think you have the right idea but vh40 and bore sizes and displacement- mmmm sr2 git in dere boi- lol

angelab, May 26, 9:45am
Uncle Jake. I will have a bit of a geezer at that but the electric motor width still looks marginal. It looks a bit similar to a contraption I saw when I went one click too far down youtubes weird side!

unclejake, May 26, 10:08am
The one I linked to used the power steering pump as the source of energy. I'm not recommending one as I know nothing about them, but they did look moderately compact compared to a traditional M/C mounted booster. Good luck.

Hi to my old MB mate??

angelab, May 26, 12:27pm
Cheers Simon. I hope the weekend treated you well. We can all moan at times but ain't we blessed with the level of things we can get to do out and about here in En Zed. Im aware of some of your background and will certainly be listening. All the parts mentioned in the first post are there because they are in the garage now and fit inside the 15" steelies. 3 kids are draining the coffers (bought braces lately? Wow) The motor is out at the mo, ready to tidy up the bay and fit the mild 440(plenty of vac)Discs on the back due to having no handbrake after biffing the stuffed cast iron auto with cardon shaft and wanting LSD as well so, right width, stud pattern,31 splines, discs, Tick. I will get a photo of the assy from the eng bay up soon but the car ain't driving down the road this week I realize. The original m/c is a roundy with one outlet, mounted down low at cyld head sort of height, oval shaped booster above. I will buy mum some flowers and see if she will teach me to upload photos. Thanks, Talk soon. Vaughan.

http://bringatrailer.com/2012/12/19/nearing-extinction-swivel-seat-1960-desoto-fireflite/ Scroll down a couple of photos for the engine bay. This is fairly close but is a low deck motor so not quite as tight and I have bigger rams horns. Quite tight for the steering box too but I realize now that I need to drop the mtr in for some proper measurements now looking at it again. It stalled for a bit ( everything I've got seems 1//2 done) waiting for the engine mounts to be rebuilt but I have them back so the excuses can stop.

The steel bit in the photo is a 300mm rule, it's very tight under m/c for the p/steer. You can also see why there has been fluid tipped all over the steering box trying to top up the brakes! A couple of years earlier the boosters were actually a square concertina design and externally expanding disc brakes. The mind boggles at what were thought good designs at the time eh?

lookoutas, May 27, 6:49am
That universal booster, or something like it looks the go for me.

It looks like there's enough room if the booster was mounted higher.
Could the swing point of the peddle be modified to allow the push-rod to come out higher?
Or make an upwards dog-legged push-rod.

80 s BMW 5/6 series had dual booosters extra 1 mounted on inner gaurd . Good stoppers .

BUMP! Are you still out there angelab?

Haven't forgotten about your brake problem. I've had a few idea's re a solution.

angelab, Apr 17, 11:20am
Gidday Simon. Yep mostly here when internet plays, Floating round off west timor at the moment. back in 2 weeks. I thought about the 70"s Aussie stuff after what you said and remembered the chryslers solution. Couldn't wait for the engine bay tidy so temporarily I slung the motor in the day before I left and offered up an offset booster bracket ex V8 Valigrunt and think that if it were reworked to vertical instead of 45* to the left it would let a booster clear the head and the spacing it forward will help with the steering box . I was thinking of just fitting the M/C straight to the firewall and using the old booster (rebuilt )assisting on the top of the pedal but leather booster cup seals etc. I hope to use the thing towing and am allergic to walking if stranded. I have a VT m/c booster combo that will pair with the Vt calipers on the front and is disc rear ready as well. Im welcome to your musings but hamstrung here for a fortnight. Thanks and regards, Vaughan
