MF35 TRACTOR

hunter535, Apr 5, 7:33am
Hi anyone know what the issue would be with my tractor, when starting it has sparks/arching from the dash panel where the bracket comes up from the gearbox, still turns over an will start but the instrument panel gets real hot, have replaced solenoid and regulator but still sparks and get real hot. Appreciate any ideas, thanks

check yr earth lead

What xs1000 said. Check the earth goes to the engine or gearbox, not just the back of the panel.

Loose conections, dodgy insulation on cables, shorting out to earth, continue using your 40+ yr old tractor and you risk it going up in smoke.

Also check the polarity of the battery to earth , should be (+)

Battery terminals or starting solenoid is touching the dash. I seem to remember the bAtt terminals are very close to the hood too when the hood is closed. If nothing obvious to you, get a sparky quick.

thanks for advice, change the earth position from the rear of the panel to the bell-housing and problem solved, good enough now to drive to the south pole, (don't recall any fords doing the trip)
