Have a friend with a cosworth stationwagon here. it's had thousands spent on it recently but cracked head when started without coolant so needs work. what sort of worth would one of these be to sell as is? rego on hold. had just passed wof etc. typical paint fade for this era but otherwise in really good order. not sure what to list it for as they just aren't around to compare.

Never heard of a Cosworth wagon, photos please

sorry just had chat to friend and it's not a genuine cosworth. just has the running gear they had at the time when doing the cosworths. (belgium made or something similar). sorry I shoud've quizzed him further before asking on here.

Sorry mate, it WILL be a stock standard twin cam 8 valve 1990-1992 GLX Sierra wagon. The "crack" in the head will actually be a hole just above one of the valve guides and is a pain and expensive to fix. Tell your mate not to expect any more than 500 for it.
At the end of the day it's a stock Sierra wagon.

Also the wagons were carb' and the sedans (Sapphire) was EFI which makes the wagon even more basic.

Worth more than $500.

attitudedesignz, Jun 8, 5:46pm
Come on, you being in the business you are surely should know the value of a bog stock 1991 Sierra wagon.
Then throw in a "cracked" head, which is so common on those GLX wagons you'd be lucky to get 500.

There is nothing special about these things despite what people think or say about them. Been there done that, more than once.

As a side note. If someone does manage to fix the head or find a replacement good luck with the cam chain tensioner, they are a non returning plunger type so you get one chance and one chance only to get it right.

mite get a couple of hundred for the box to go into an escort conversion , dont know who would want the rest.

I knew a guy with a rover V8 & 5 speed manual in a Sierra wagon, went like stink. Well worth $500 & a conversion. limited appeal though I spose

A manual, thousands spent, new WOF, lol

Probably worth $2000 to the right buyer, if body is in excellent condition.

noswalg, Jun 9, 1:20am
lol, thats a pretty broad statement! Good luck finding the right buyer. It's worth at least $250 to the scrappy though. At the end of the day its an old sierra SW, NOT a cosworth.

twink19, Jun 9, 1:46am
have bought a couple of these, $250, gear box value only, rest went to scrap

meow_mix, Jun 9, 1:47am
If it's a Sierra wagon with Cossie running gear and thousands spent, well it would be worth something to someone. I'd recommend the owner fixes it up himself.

msigg, Jun 9, 1:50am
Yes to the right buyer, These older cars are getting collectible, if the body is great condition, then just the mechanicals, basic stuff. Look at the escorts and cortina.

If its got a mint uncracked dash it could be worth another hundy.

mainlander05, Jun 9, 2:45am
Cost more for the steel head gasket they put in to overcome this inherant problem with the real cosworths.

attitudedesignz, Jun 9, 5:09am
It won't be genuine. It'll be a GLX.

snoopy221, Jun 9, 5:19am
Yip suspet elc ign compd carbed 8 valve twinnie cammed head,,, got a head here atm for one if ya int can list.

attitudedesignz, Jun 9, 5:19am
T5 or MT75?

I know the GLX ('90-'92) wagons had the MT75, and they were not that good, they could only just handle the 92 kw (123hp) of the massive 8 valve twin cam hahaha.

snoopy221, Jun 9, 5:20am
8 valve twin cam

lol

attitudedesignz, Jun 9, 5:20am
Paper weight mate. It'll have a hole in it that ya haven't seen LOL.

attitudedesignz, Jun 9, 5:24am
Yep, the N8A engine. That's why everyone says it's a Cossie.

They open the bonnet of a poxy Sierra and see a twin cam and say "Bro', it's a Cosworth" pffffft.

I hated those damn things despite generally being a Euro Ford fan, those late Belgium built ones were very different to the earlier teardrop or pre teardrop models, not many bits interchanged, that twin cam engine had all sorts of different faults, it hated NZ petrol and had a horrible carb and ignition system, and that gearbox was also a different unit to the earlier one. Even Ford themselves pulled the pin on them pretty quick, new they cost about six grand more than a Telstar wagon at the time.

Doubt dat actually did a donk-was reputed to have dropped an exhaust. had usual air leak 3 cyl iriot comp and vac line and carb issues,,never leakaged it but suspect was more *issues** than physical engine probs.
