Commerical car and tool insurance

Are there any tradies out there who can recommend an insurance company for our son who's just starting out into the building industry, has a van with tools in transit, and is needing insurance for both the van itself plus the tools if possible. Cheers.

I have tools in canopy of my ute. They are covered under my contents as long as canopy is locked

He doesn't have contents insurance, so will need maybe a commercial vehicle and tools package. ?

I have found AMP good to deal with in this regard. In my case, my tools of the trade are musical instruments and associated equipment but they treat me the same as a tradesman, eg. builder, sparkie etc. and as a result I have a much better and cheaper policy than specialist music gear policies (which are horrendous!)

Thanks saxman. I shall try them for a quote.

Insurance for tools is very expensive. I was quoted in excess of $1000 for $6000 worth of tools. Consequently I don't carry insurance, They are however covered when the van is parked at home. I would recommend to get the best immobiliser alarm fitted to his van. Tint the back windows, cover the tools with an old sheet and keep locked at all times. Whether insured or not it comes down to diligence in keeping track of where your tools are when they are on site

When I last looked for tool insurance a few years ago, the only cover readily available at a reasonable price was for fire or if the vehicle turned over.
That wasnt where my risk exposure was so I passed on it.

Also, ensure that the policy provides a hire vehicle if a claim is made.
A couple of weeks without a work vehicle is a real bummer.
