Does it have a dipstick? My Primera has a dipstick in the cvt, but the oil never varies.

They're probably looking more for the "procedure" i.e. some transmissions are with engine running, others engine off. Some are check when hot, other cold, etc.
Information does seem to be fairly elusive on the internet.
