175/80R13 and 185/80R13 tyres

dublo, Jul 28, 2:59am
These seem to have become very hard to find, but are used on 1960s Zephyrs and Holdens, and Triumphs up to 1978, and probably many other cars, so there must be a reasonably sized market for them. Anyone know of any suppliers?

dublo--check on 175 r13 which I THINK is basicly 175 80/13

From memory 80 profile is standard so tyre companies only put the profile on the tyre if it is anything other than standard.

Yes, 80 is the basic profile. I typed in 175/80 and 185/80 because that is how tyres now seem to be listed!

Hmmm, I see what you mean.
The calculator is slightly helpful, but not totally.

No 185 R13's, just the 14's, so the Falcon and HQ owners still have rubber available. Sort of.

For 175/80SR13 (Triumph 2000)
185/70R13 circumference is 96.56% of 175/80R13, and "proper" brands e.g. Bridgestone, Michelin and Goodyear are available according to Beaurepaires & Firestone websites.

For 185/80SR13: (Triumph 2500)
185/70SR14 is 98% of standard diameter but you need to find suitable 14" wheels.
185/65SR15 is 99% of standard diameter but you need to find suitable 15" wheels.
225/60SR15 is 99.9% of standard diameter but you need to find suitable (and wider!) wheels. and flare the wheel arches out a bit to make it fit by all accounts.

Thanks, seadubya. Looked up the Tyre Shop On Line site and found Kumho 175/80R13 for $119+$9 freight. No 185/80R13 but plenty of choice of 185/70R14 (thanks richardm) which are suitable for Triumph 2500S or Stag 14" alloy rims! We have a set of these, plus Minilite replicas on hand so must polish them up for use in case they are needed.

I ordered some 175 from tyre shop but they did not have them, had to send my money back ,, got some from classic tyres at tauranga, could only get white walls ,, as far as I know they are the only ones in the country

If you go 8 ply both sizes are readily available.

We had to buy 8-ply tyres for a Triumph 2000 after getting two tyre-damaging punctures near Taihape some years ago. They were ok (would probably last for ages) but did give a harder ride on the rear of the car. Dropping pressures by about 2 lb helped a little (I can't recall if we tried them on the front.)
