I remember seeing somewhere a leaderboard for Nurburgring laptimes for a track day, and most of the fastest were Golfs, ahead of all the Porsche, Ferrari, Merc and BMW sports cars. No doubt being a local helps, but there is a great tuning culture for Golfs in Europe.

Brilliant. Love a Q car. ran a Lynn Rogers rally tuned A series in, in a plain 850 mini. Hehe, great fun passing an RX7 that was trying really hard, up a hill. This was early 80's.

Lynn Rogers and minis' he sure knew how to build them, brought his Mini 7 off him, had quite a few tricks done to it!
