Never had any problems with mine in the same place as yours. As long as they are visible if the tester checks
Edited to say, tester checks by bending over and using his/her neck slightly

pretty sure the regulations state 'as close as practical to the numberplate.
ON the plate is pretty close.

Ive never ever had a problem with it

Mine are on wind shield, long way from number plate.

Slightly deviating from topic, but i find this but a poorly written piece "if the motor vehicle is fitted with a windscreen, the licence must be displayed on the inside of the windscreen, as close as practicable to the bottom right-hand corner of the windscreen (when viewed from the outside and front of the motor vehicle):"

In my line of work everything is orientated from how the "driver" looks at it. So it would be ". the licence must be displayed on the inside of the windscreen, as close as practicable to the bottom LEFT-hand corner of the windscreen:"

I have put mine under rear seat.
