Ford V8 ecu chip?

hamhonda, May 28, 10:24pm
AUII XR8 auto. Just wondering about a chip (if available) to improve fuel economy. Any ideas as to what I could get and are the worth while doing. For the wifes ute, and she's doing about 500-600kms a week.

Yes, its called a Manual Transmission.

wifes ute, wife = female, female + manual= ? , nah, that doesn't compute haha. Nah, she can only drive auto now due to shoulder injury so manual isn't an option

Hehe, sorry mate. I couldn't help but give this one a "rev" up. Que the real answers.

i would get it on lpg injection system if you want to save money
chiptuning only works on turbo engines and best on diesel because they can have a variable gate charger to lower fuelconsumption and same or more horsepower .

there is one other trick but its not allowed for on road use .
You could chip tune it and run it leaner then 14.7 to 1 because that is what the cats need to work , So cat dummys would need to be fitted and then you could run it more lean like 16 to 1 or similar programming for that on offroad track use only probably exist. And then you could tune it to run 91 fuel , but how mutch that would save i dont know and its not legal to be done so you cant tell anyone that you still did it or not . Solong as there is no emisson testing they wont know.

I recently chipped the wifes Commodore, also does high mileage. Not much more economical, but easier to drive, lighter loud pedal for the same go. And slightly more powerful. So when we get used to the extra go, ease off it, it'll be easier on the goomballs.

A genuine high quality cold air intake that is better than the stock one.
Getting some type of improved front air dam to improve the drag coefficient of the Ford front end.
Getting a competition jack and removing any extra weight - installing light weight seat, remove carpet.

A proper tune on a dyno would be the best bet.
Do a performance air filter, or better yet a better intake at the same time and you could see quite reasonable power increases as well.
Eastern Automotive in Auckland would be a good outfit to talk to, they get great results from Aussie V8s.

Is all of this highway driving, what consumption figures are you getting out of it currently, has this changed recently, and if it has is there a cause for it would be the first questions. Mucking with ECU's isn't going to help if it has to fight with an abnormal operating condition due to poor maintenance, poor driving or malfunctioning parts like thermostats or oxygen sensors.

Cheers, but it isn't using more gas than usual. And all servicing etc is up to date. Just hoping to get some better economy then what she is currently getting. We're not wanting to get more power as she isn't a heavy footed driver We might look into a good cold intake like has been suggested. Thanks for all your guys/(gals?) help.
