To do what, carry goods or passengers, or a mix of both?

goods ! just personal things . art canvases etc. which are bulky. 2 or 3 seater.

What size are the canvases? IMO the best bang for buck in a van is the Nissan vanette/Mazda bongo. Reasilly available in manual

^^This^^ or the Liteace/Townace. Unfortunately safety doesn't get much of a rating in any forward control van in that price range.

Get something like an Odyssey and remove the seats - they're basically a car and far safer than something like a Bongo van

Yep, Townace Noah could be the go. Trying to find a petrol manual goods van that hasn't done huge km commercially for a reasonable price is a bit of an uphill battle.

4 ft. x 4 ft + had a look on here at the one you suggested mostly autos.

she is used to driving a mitsi l 300 . which yous have said are bad news safety wise, but she likes the higher seating of a van, rather than ( sitting on the road) as she puts it.

Probably a better bet to look at something more like a Honda CRV, Toyota Rav 4 etc. Take the back seats out and will be more than enough space.
As you are finding, any half decent van costs heaps and you won't get anything safe unless you can get one of the latest models.

MOSTLY auto's but you will find manuals.--she will need the MID roof version. Theres a few nice passenger vans but they are auto.
