Holden Vectra 2002 hatch

Manual, been regular serviced etc at the Holden shop. Cam was done at 150, now has 240 on clock. asking $1000.

Is this a good buy? Dare I touch it? Im slightly concerned about the cam as this will eat into any pathetic savings I have. Any advice?

Do you mean cambelt? If so it probably should be done again but then at $1000 can't expect too much. These old vectras don't make a lot of money with miles on but if it's tidy, well serviced, dives well, checks out well, you're unlikely to get better for a grand. Folk will tell you to buy a corolla but you won't get a 2002 in good nick for grand.

Ring your local garage and ask for a price to do the cambelt .
I guess a second class ride is better than a first class walk

No no no no no no no no no nononononooooooooo. One of the worst cars you can buy on a low budget, these get dumped cheap because they are a money pit. Spending a grand on a pushbike would be a wiser choice.
