My car has polycarbonate (not Glass )covers Bulbs are H4 60/55 to increase the light output I,m considering xenon? or H4 100/60 any ideas?

gpg58, Jul 3, 2:36pm
adding 66% more heat on high, sounds like complete new lights needed real soon.
Whats the WOF rules on after market bulbs of any type, i would assume they would need to meet some form of approval.
Spot lights wired thru dip switch seems better.

kazbanz, Jul 3, 2:38pm
I'd be VERY carefull with 100/60's if you spend a lot of time on high.

Guy I worked with at Air NZ had a Triumph 2.5pi and got so pissed off heading home late down George Bolt Drive Drive(when it was only 2 lanes) and one particular clown would sit behind him with lights on full.He put 130/90s in both headlights(Trumpy had 4)next time this turkey did his usual trick he slowed down, let him pass then gave him the "Treatment".Never happened again. Mind you the Triumph has glass headlights not Plastic.

Are those plastic covers nice and clear? If not fix that first.

jmma, Jul 3, 4:11pm
Sealed beams?

Try changing the bulbs out to the 100% brighter ones, think hella or narva make them?

I have 120% brighter in mine and they are magic, only thing is with the increase of gas in them, they burn out faster then a normal bulb but you don't have the added heat like you would from a higher wattage bulb

80/100's is about all ya going to need nowadays due to reflector signage.
Back in the day 140/100's and 140's in the spots but nowadays ya just get too much glare

budgel, Jul 3, 8:04pm
Some of the new lights are insanely bright. I got blinded a few days ago in daytime by a guy on a bike with a very bright headlamp.

slarty45, Jul 3, 8:14pm
I swapped stock (bottom shelf) Philips bulbs for (top shelf) Philips Xtreme Vision
Same wattage, no extra heat, just a much better filament but slightly shorter lifespan
Good on open road when going like the clappers

lookoutas, Jul 3, 8:16pm
Yeah?
Mate of mine had a mate who worked for Air NZ, and he procured him some landing lights that he stuck in the mains of his Trump 2.5.
The bloody alternator almost jumped out through the bonnet when he flicked the lights on full. Main objective was to blind & piss-off everyone in Mangere.

gazzat22, Jul 3, 8:19pm
Nope .Not In Gerry,s PI or my 1978 2.5S

snoopy221, Jul 3, 8:20pm
procured him some landing lights
Meh they are only 140 watts-lol

Read my post #8 LOL

140/100's and 140's in the spots

And yep had the SERIOUS alternator with all circuits loaded rear window demister heater wipers lights stereo could pull over 100 amps-so had a cut n shut separate regulated battery sensed 4 cyl pulleyed alternator on a v8 which could put out over 150 amps at idle -LOL

gazzat22, Jul 3, 8:28pm
I heard about him.Apparently when he flicked the switch the alternator went right into red. He also hooked up a magnetron from a Microwave oven which took the signal from a traffic cops radar, multiplied it by a few thousand times and sent it back.He "Fried"about 10 radars until he got caught and told to "Cease and Desist or? He was an Avionics genius and a nice guy. From memory they were DC8 or DC10 landing lights TE 1978x. About 3-4 million candlepower. Those were the days!

supernova2, Jul 3, 11:47pm
Impossible as the PI Trumpy had sealed beams so not able to put high wattage bulbs in.

the-lada-dude, Jul 4, 7:57am
phisst, . that's nothing to grow about, I once had a 5.3 Triumph that I put 450 amp carbon arc lights in . on high beam you could set dry grass and trees a blaze as you drove on by . !

martin11, Jul 4, 8:47am
Rubbish your alternator /generator and battery would not stand the current draw .

gazzat22, Jul 4, 10:14am
Wrong!

gusthe1, Jul 4, 10:38am
I heard he once put a flux capacitor into a Morrie 1000 and hasnt been heard of since

martin11, Jul 4, 12:21pm
DC 10 had 1000w landing lights

gazzat22, Jul 4, 12:40pm
What Nose gear or wing? What was the part number?

gazzat22, Jul 4, 12:41pm
Semi sealed.

martin11, Jul 4, 12:44pm
OEM Q4559X

martin11, Jul 4, 12:48pm
Sealed beams originally on the 2.0 and 2.5 https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID008728

supernova2, Jul 4, 2:53pm
Well obviously you didn't own any of the 10 or so that I had and every one of them had Lucas sealed beam units.
Even the Rimmer Bros link shows them to be sealed beams GLU105 & GLU135
