If you scare off easily on the thought of a ten year old 100,000km car needing some maintenance, buy a Lexus.

Love our 07 550i m/sport wagon 115,000kms. mechanical warranties not a silly idea though. Not many options around for a rwd v8/6 wagon. Next purchase in a few years will probably be a E class v8 for a change. Parents C63 is a weapon. I looked at lexus but they a bit boring in that era/price range. bimmersport forum great for any BMW knowledge.

Fuel in our 550i isnt that bad, hardly more than our old ba xr6, and a lot of town driving as well.

Mercs are cheap for a lot of car . I bought a CLK320 210 k onit but still drives like new & its actually less thirsty than my old BMW328

Op, a top spec BMW or Merc has a lot mOr tech on board than a standard car, you have to accept that and be happy to service it properly or look elsewhere. A commodore wagon for instance.

Mercedes is the number one choice. The E Class 350 diesel or petrol are excellent. The V8 will be the C (class) 55. Is there a specific reason you want a V8? The R 350 is worth a look as well.

Only reason is that I've been a V8 fan for about 50 years. God only knows why but I'm at the stage of life that I feel I should have one if I want to. I guess they're not going to be around for too much longer so what the hell.

Do a search for $57,000 Mercedes engine repair. The 05-10 am v8s have faulty head bolts which results in massive engine failure. Merc never admitted the fault but did a redesign of the head bolts around 2011.

You have to wonder why a couple of hundred K car brand new is so cheap ten years later, that E500 in particular listed above is an absolute steal at $13k. What is a high km one with a shonky service history worth? 7? 5? Brave dealers selling them too.

poppy62, Sep 9, 9:52am
FRANC123 quote: You have to wonder why a couple of hundred K car brand new is so cheap ten years later,

Because they've taken your word for it, and traded them in for a 1996 Toyota Corolla. The Posh 'burbs of Auckland are chocka with '96 Corollas.

Pleased to hear that. They needed a good dose of common sense.

please do get one. so we can all stop posting "what to look out for" and start posting "this is what happened" with my purchase.

What do you think of the on-road costs on top of the deal?

elect70, Sep 9, 12:27pm
People downsizing their cars , dont want to be seen as fuel wasters by their friends& neighbours not PC . . So they have low resale value &trade them in on new jap /korean /chinese disposables after 200K. Mercs no more complicated or expensive to fix than any other modern car . Like the guy who spent $3500 on his alloytech 3.6 commy that shat its timing chains & slipped crank sensor wheel . Common fault in USA on these Chains about as skinny as kids bicycle chain & sensor wheel just a push fit on the crank .

poppy62, Sep 9, 2:09pm
Just fixed it for you, though like me you'll be long time gone awaiting a report.

wizzbikz, Sep 11, 10:28am
''' WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR '' was your question GAS STATIONS.

toyboy3, Sep 11, 2:58pm
That car looks like a south or west Auckland mafia drug dealers staff car

poppy62, Sep 11, 3:33pm
