Change of engine capacity so LVV might probably apply.
Might want to discuss the LVV process with a certifier etc before hand.

The 2005 engine is likely to be at 135 hp or so, the 1997 engine is 70hp or less so you are likely to end up with a snail vehicle which may be ok for running around town etc.
You can get a brand long block 115hp duratorq ZSD engine from Australia for around Nz$7K (aus shop floor) which will have 45hp (plus more torque)more than your 1997 engine.
Aus also use the holden v6 / auto in transits

Totally different engine. The later engine is common rail turbo, the old one just a rattly old lump. Buy a new long block, cheaper than a recondition of the dead engine. It does appear that those 2.4 engines are good for approximately 300,000 km ish.

Yep bolt the new motor in and for what its worth you probably won't know the difference. I had a 2007 Non turbo and it was great . Replaced the motor with a 2005 motor and No Problems went like a rocket, and still does !

Good luck.

Lol at won’t notice the difference - it’s starkly obvious.

I had the misfortune of driving a late 90s non-turbo for a while and eventually got an upgrade to the new shape with the turbo 2.4 - huge difference despite the bigger heavier body

I have just done a replacement engine in my mk6 transit known as the y2k transit up to 2004 they had a 125 92kw with the heavy duty diff. They sat at 3100rpm @100k, in 05 Ford face lifted and put in the 115 85kw engine that sits at 2700rpm at 100.
You really want to stay with another 115 keep your fuel management system and change over everything else keep the best turbo injectors and auxiliary of both motors. Good luck though they are hard to find.
