Anyone know why my golf cuts out randomly ? Just the engine but lights on dash stay on. It can restart again after a few minutes of sitting.

well could be a few things you would want to hook up a rosstech scanner and see if it has any information like intermitend crank sensor open circuit or something. http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/index.php pirate ones only work with light-version
Just after you have started it ? or while your happily driving along .

Best to get it in to an auto sparky, he will do a diagnostic and have some ideas, you don't want this thing stopping randomly that is very annoying. sounds like some module gone.

Bang a new fuel pump in it.

They don't like it when you run them low on fuel often.

There is most probably 2 fuel pumps but it makes no sense that they should quit when hot . heatsoaking is a problem for components to command ignition cam and crank sensors are knowen items to quit when hot and work again when cooing down. fuelpump usually is a no start or lack of power if it dies just like that it be more like ignition quits. post #7

No mention of MIL , 97 is getting old for a pump, most faulty pumps Iv'e come across fart around until they stop completely. , Id start there it smells like this ,A new filter and some other stuff to consider. maybe a full service and tune up for starters by a sharp eye. .IN Oams suggest Lude. man motors or NOrth otago motor group or Craig Mac ,at least a proper hands on assessment and where to go from there.

It's like that you say and agree it could be electrical but Im thinking fuel but then again anyone's guess could well be anything else CPS (the cool down trick) or ie >worn spark plugs a load on ignition side.(breaking down while hot) By the sounds of its been run without preventative maintenance and this now ops problem with the car crops up. I recommend a service for starters if it hasn't had already one . before id pluggin looking for other.

Take it to a mechanic and have it diagnosed properly. There's no point any of us having a guess, as we can't see the car.
