Old tyres

Found 5 old tyres on my property. Local refuse centre wants $9. for disposal.
Is that my only responsible option for disposal ?

No, you can turn them into tyre swings or other play equipment.

Cut the sidewalls out, sharp old knife at the edge of the tread.
can get 4 in a council rubbish bag no worries.

Gave away two old tractor tyres recently to someone who wanted them for goats to jump on. So maybe find someone with--small goats--for smaller size tyres. Goat trampolines, that's it. Sounds like there's a market waiting out there.

I had two tyres in the trailer, to take to the recycling area at the dump, another fellow there said "Give them to me, I can use them as "plant pots" in the garden." He also took my used engine oil to paint on to his fences.

Useful for landscaping on a sloping section. Offer on Freecycle.

Paint them a bright colour using any left over paint, stack them, fill with soil or potting mix and grow something.

growing in tyres and painting them on top with old lead paint is something you probably should do if you really want to get cancer.

Don't a few tyres vanish in Nov 5 bonfires?

Good skills! For what it is worth I have had a bad run on kitchen appliances in the last few months. As a result I have managed to feed 2 fridges and a freestanding oven through my council wheelie bin. The dumping costs I saved bought me a 24 pack of beer that helped me in the dismantling phase. The empty bottles then went into the recycle bin so we are all winners!

tygertung, Oct 23, 12:06am
You should be able to take the whiteware for free down to the council refuse station as they can recycle it.

desmodave, Oct 23, 2:13am
I think they may require that you have the refrigeration gas removed 1st on any fridges . Do people actually take there fridge freezer some where to have this done before taking it dump i am unsure . I suspect many people would just cut through a copper pipe . Free to dump metal here and tyre's are $3 . Wonder how many i could collect and dump before a price rise .

I took a dead fridge/freezer to the scrap metal guys last week.
Closer to me than the dump & got paid $9.

ignoramus1, Oct 23, 3:18am
simple . put them outside your property then phone the council and tell them they have been dumped there (and they have) , it will take a few days but the council will get them removed ( ive had illegally dumped rubbish removed by doing that, more than once)
at the end of the day the council get paid enough rates so make them do it . its not your fault (or responsibility to get rid of illegally dumped rubbish ITS THERES !
