Just saw a Mk1 cortina drive past my house, I have not seen one for ages. It was painted red. I mostly see pale blue, white, grey Toyotas go past my house on Sundays. I live by a church:) The Mk1 is my favourite cortina followed by the Mk3. I don't see many around now.

Yes, Mk3 was OKish, then kept going down as they became less Cortina's and more world cars.

Yep soft spot in my heart for a Mk 1 Cortina, Mk 2 with the crossflow motor was also a very nice model, especially the GT and GTE. Never did like the Mk 3, always thought of them as a bit of an overblown tub, I think early on they were under engined for the size of the body. The Pinto type motor changed that but I still never liked them. MK 5 with the V6 was very nice though. Nice engines to work on, tons of room around them and simple, hungry on cam followers with an aggressive cam though.

My second car car a 1965 MK1 Cortina. White with 4 speed column change. Then came the 1968GT MK2 then the 1971 MK3 then the 1981 MK5 Ghia. I loved all of them.

Same had MK 66 Cortina as first car in 1973 which was written off by drunk on Pakuranga Highway . Loved my car . Then 2 Mk Two`s , one a 1600 and the other a 2000 then another MK 1 66 1500 and then the exs MK2 1300 and finally Mk 4 2000 . Served me well except one which blew up . Even had a near new 1300 MK 2 Escort . Those were the days , Transport and freedom to a young lad then young man . Memories
I see a Mk1 Cortina once in a blue moon around here in Lower Hutt but I see a 2 door Mk3 Cortina every day if I go into my garage. Work in progress on my 2 door.

Unfortunately the 4.1 motors weight didn’t enhance the handling of said Cortina

My second car was a mk2 with a 3L v6 . That was about 1993ish the new LVV cert rules had just come in I remember having to prove with the rego papers for some reason the modifications were done before the LVV cert law

Drove a Mk. 3 new and thought it weak, compared with the 'old' Mk. 2.

Is a 4 cylinder Holden Torana Lc 1200cc comparable in performance. Are they worth a similar amount restored or I read that they use them for donor bodies and put a 6 cylinder in.
