If you need a tow truck, is this extra? It's not clear on their website. Anyone know?

No it's not. Had one of my late father's old cars taken to my mechanic across town with State Roadside rescue about five years ago.
If you are out of town, it will just be to the nearest garage.

I made use of the service on Boxing Day when my ute died. I was out in the country, but I was fortunate that my hometown was the nearest town. I had to select the service as an optional extra when I took out the policy. I think it adds around $50 to the annual bill, and there is a limit to the number of callouts you can have.

When I have used it i was only towed to the nearest town.
Since the public registrations are closed, you must have an invite from a current member to be able to register and post in this thread.
