Hemi 5.7 V8 - Your experience?

A quick google search seems to indicate these engines can have problems with value seats falling out and/or lifters failing (Hemi tick) and eating camshafts. What is your experience, buy or avoid? Cheers.

buy a newer engine in place of a 70 year old one. also helps with parts as well.

Hemi 5.7 Litre engines were a product of the 50's ?

I assume you mean one of these.

They are well rated. But.

Being alloy head with pressed in valve seats (like most modern engines) they don't take nicely to overheating. The slightly older non-Hemi V8 was known for dropping valve seats.

The lifters should last well if you use the correct (low viscosity) oil.

Pull the dipstick while cold. The oil should be runny and and clean to light gold colour. If not, walk away.

Anything that old has been rebuilt and hopefully improved during process.

Likely not. They should do well over 300,000 Kms before any sort of major maintenance if maintained to schedule.

Thought they were installed in current Challengers & Rams
