For better or worse, I have bought a 40 year old vehicle and need insurance and would like the piece of mind that breakdown assistance provides. Anyone had a good experience with either and can recommend?

I had my breakdown assistance option with State, and am well satisfied with how it worked on Boxing day when I broke down way out in the country. I think State would insure your car.

Did you get the problem fixed roadside or was it a towable type problem?

It was towable, they came out with a flatdeck recovery truck. It took the operator about four minutes to get my vehicle on the back of the truck. I think breakdown assist for most of these companies is pretty much limited to a jumpstart or perhaps some gas. It was almost exactly three hours from my phonecall to being back home in my driveway. I was fortunate that the closest recovery vehicle was from my hometown. If I had been closer to another town I think they would have taken me to secure storage there.
