Obviously the cost isnt a problem but in most cases its $2-300 opposed to moonbeams for comprehensive. And only for a year or 2 till they qualify for a no claims bonus.

I’m not sure I understand your post - I paid the insurance, they paid me - that was the deal. I think it was about $500 for the first year.

my husband is a panel beater so can fix it, if it's worth fixing. It's $190 a year for third party, fire and theft.

Nah, just get a sensible first car. This is going back 22 years but my first car was a 1.3 Corolla hatch. It was $4000. Full cover from AMI was $500 a year with a $750 excess when I was 18.

Most if not all Insurance companies seem to load up the premium and the excess for drivers under 25.
