crzyhrse, Aug 16, 10:41pm
Ummm not sell a vehicle to a friend!

crzyhrse, Aug 16, 10:42pm
Fail.

budgel, Aug 16, 11:51pm
You were part of a rort yourself, with the insurance payments requiring to be paid in your name.
It doesnt feel so good when you are the one being rorted does it!

doublek, Aug 17, 12:00am
There's no proof of a fraudulent activity. They could have contacted the Insurance Company and advised that the chap who was supposed to pay off the car, was a named driver, using the vehicle 100%. We don't know, so therefore we shouldn't assume.

bm4, Aug 17, 12:02am
before anyone does anythingmake sure you have seen the paper workin her name
wouldnt want to be busted for car theft

muzzaandmich, Aug 17, 1:03am
I am NOTan authoritybutthinksince you havealreadyaccepted some cash paymentsyouhave already accepted the terms and conditions thisverbal contract.it is nowa civil problembetween you and your friend

msigg, Aug 17, 1:03am
Chalk it up and never sell a friend a car again. Unless you have alot of paper work stating the car was sold on. signed then its your word against his, he can say, you never said I had to pay that! ect, forget it.
Live and learn.

h.e, Aug 17, 1:08am
the car is still in your name! if so its legally yours.i would go collect the car

kazbanz, Aug 17, 1:14am
And the buyer has stopped payments for several MONTHS.Thats breach of even a verbal contract. GO GET THE CAR.
Whoever has the vehicle is always the person in the position of strenth.

crzyhrse, Aug 17, 1:22am
Wrong. Registered ownership does not constitute legal ownership. It never has.

luckythirteen, Aug 17, 1:26am
So you sold a car to them and didn't ensure the ownerships were changed! Shocking if you did.
If it IS still in your name you are liable for certain costs that the car may incur regardless of anything you say (you could try and explain it away and you may be successful!), Unless faces are seen in the camera shots you will be liable for them too regardless of an aliby. If they do not own up to the tickets etc then a few court cases maybe coming up for you. Silly silly mistakes and I know you were only trying to help a friend but sheesh you made some huge errors in judgement.

jsbike, Aug 17, 2:07am
it has not been paid in full, therefore the seller should still have legal ownership.

bm4, Aug 17, 2:07am
de reg it and sit back and let them get tickets

luckythirteen, Aug 17, 2:33am
Registered owners are taken seriously, it is the first port of call for the Authorities. They will be liable should no other outcome eventuate.
Also there has been back rego accrued so OP will be liable for that at the very least and on top of all the other stuff. I feel sorry for them. I have never read so many mistakes made in a car deal, friends or not. My heart even goes out to them. Not nice from a supposed friend.

rupertmja1, Aug 17, 2:50am
Never sell a car to a friend. Even worse can be to just give them one for free. Either way, you will soon lose your friend.

babcorp, Aug 17, 2:54am
If you repo the car it is YOU that can been charged with theft. Been through the exact same thing before. Your only legal recourse is court action.

klrider, Aug 17, 2:56am
Not only is the car not insured, but its not yours anymore. Its not insured because you have not advised the ins. coy that it now belongs to someone else. The money being owed becomes a debt, but the car belongs to the person you handed ownership to.Who it is registered to is not relevent in this situation.

moosie_21, Aug 17, 4:26am
Screw that, I'd be up there taking the car back myself. If that didn't work I'd de-reg it and refuse to hand over title of the car. Give an inch and watch them take a mile.

BTW, watch Judge Judy, she would have had a FIELD DAY with your case!

kazbanz, Aug 17, 4:36am
RUBBISH- There is NOTHING in wrighting and if the person with the car argues the actual owner (the OP) can make it clear the car has been reposessed and when the balance is paid they will get the car back.

jsbike, Aug 17, 4:42am
its a civil matter, the cops wont do anything to you if you go take it back.

fordcrzy, Aug 17, 5:21am
jeez its still your car. its in your name and the full amount hasnt been paid.you have 3 options really.
1)go get the car
2)report it stolen
3) de register the car and forget about it.

babcorp, Aug 17, 6:02am
rubbish!
I know this for fact you idiots. There is no way oin hell you could prove it stolen and find yourself in more shit for making false police complaints. morons.

ratrom, Aug 17, 6:04am
Go get the car. Bust ya EX mates knee Caps. Send a message! All you'll get if he narks is PD. Bust his Jaw that way he cant talk! Cause all hes gonna say is crap.

Or you can just head down there ask for the car and money. Take what you can then count your loss.
