Which is best, Rotary or Vtec or V8!

Rotary's are boy's toy's, V8's are men's machine's!

shane.64, Oct 15, 5:30pm
I think my 220hp 2stroke V6 Johonson outboard on wheels would be a killer

bellky, Oct 15, 6:09pm
yeah i reckin - i drive my 8 as a daily. usually i'm pissed off and it gives the right impression (that i'm on the edge, so keep beep away from me)

i drive the rota on sunny days when i am relaxed and enjoying life.

Maybe the best of both worlds,

bellky, Oct 15, 6:16pm
man that thing is cool. not a 'sleeper' tho

mrcat1, Oct 15, 9:09pm
How do you work out its not a sleeper! How else would you know its got a twin turbo 427cui in it and does 8 sec 1/4. To me it is the ultimate sleeper.

bellky, Oct 15, 9:12pm
mate. are you serious! how did those rear wheels/tubs etc evade your sight!

bellky, Oct 15, 9:13pm
and the roll cage.

richardmayes, Oct 15, 9:13pm
Anyone hauling that many unnecessary apostrophes around with him all the time would need a pretty big V8.

Performance cars - helping dumb oafs feel like they're winning something since 1908.

mrcat1, Oct 15, 9:22pm
The rears are big but not something you would see that well as its so low, and the cage is built into the body as much as possible so it cant be seen, if it pulled up beside you,no one wouldn't bat a eyelid that the thing is capable of 8 sec 1/4, its not even overly loud. Or that someone has shoe horned a twin turboed aftercooled 427 into it. And how would you even know it was running twin fuel cells, twin injection systems, pumps and a computer to drive the whole system to achieve the power. If it was here you would get some muppet have a crack at it with a Evo or even a Vtec honda.

thegravelracer, Oct 16, 12:48am
If you want a bita power/economy and reliability get a vtec if you want bit more power and no reliability or economy get a rotary if you want alot of power no fuel economy but good reliability get a V8 .IMO

foxdonut, Oct 16, 1:10am
"Actually" VTEC is NOT A TYPE OF ENGINE.

richardmayes, Oct 16, 2:03am
^^^ Quite right - VTEC is the variable valve timing & lift system that some Honda engines have.

Plenty of other manufacturers have their own systems, designed to achieve a similar function, but the alphabet soup badges are always different.

magicmat, Oct 16, 2:42am
I personally love the sound of a V8 over any of them - nothing like it in my opinion. I have owned V8, rotary and a Honda in my time and love/d them all for very different reasons.

Still. I found this vid today and what ever your preference, you have to dig this!

The modern rotary engine is based on the WANKEL engine, developed / invented by a Dr WANKel.Enough said !

thegravelracer, Oct 16, 5:00am
i think your thinking of the variable cam timing that alot of other motors have vtec is in no way the same its a locking of all three rockers engaging a third larger lobe .But in saying that the k20a and other ivtec engines use both adustable cam timing and the ''third lobe'' vtec is a honda only valve train. And a bloody good one to

ginga4lyfe, Oct 16, 6:19am
+1 , no real way to explain it properly but to show alot of people though, its liek saying BMW's Vanos is like Vtec, which it isnt, although it does alter Cam timing, its not increasing flow to suit engine load + rpm via Valve lift and duration alteration

MIVEC , VVTI, VANOS, VVT, AVCS and a few other valve timing technologies are commonly mis-represented as "vtec" equivilents, but none other than Vtec enguage a lobe on the camshaft to alter lift and duration

friendly_prawn, Oct 16, 7:12am
gee come on dude. no need to be rude. Look I can understand your love for dinasour engines and I understand your frustration with rotor's ruling the roost but gee, why the attitude.
I once was like you. I had a similar attitude. I used to hate rotors. I had a blown big block chev that was quick. Very quick.
A guy I knew used to run around in a noisey little brap brab mobile and he used to reckon he could take me. Yeah right I thought. Cheeky little git.
Any way, after much arguing he challenged me to a race. The bet was for ownership papers. Winner takes all. So off to the drag strip for the weekend. Anyway we line up side by side, and bugger me, if he didnt just kill it right off the line. Left my big bad ass blown Chevy for dead. Man did I eat dust that day. I had to man up and give him my big block chev. Well to cut a long story short, I bought his rotary off him. The quickest and most reliable car I ever owned, I have owned lots of V8s over the years.I still like my V8s. A good car if Im in no hurry. But if I want serious duties, man I get my RX7 out and woohooo. Old fogeys cower. So you see, if you would only be prepared to lose that narrow closed mind of yours, you too could be converted. So come on dude wake up and smell the coffee or you'll for ever be stuck in dinasour land.

hfc2, Oct 16, 12:03pm
belky, if you think that rotar sounds good you have serious hearing issues. It reminds me of dads old 2 stroke lawn mower, only difference is the mower still goes.

marmatt, Oct 16, 2:21pm
hhahahhahaaa how long as it taken them to figure out turbos and fuel injection

bellky, Oct 16, 3:26pm
that was awesome man! - gave me goosebumps.

savanna71, Oct 16, 4:52pm
Incorrect

tradingfreak360, Oct 16, 5:05pm

thegravelracer, Oct 16, 5:06pm
Whats incorrect!

ginga4lyfe, Oct 17, 9:35pm
yeah Id be interested to hear what is incorrect myself, only subaru have a system that alter aduration and lift system like Vtec, and that was only introduced a few years ago, its abotu the closest anyone has come to honda's "vtec" itself, and dont forget, i-vtec and vtec-e has incorperated cam timing WITH lift and duration into there normal vtec to increase not performance, but ecconomy instead
