Actually thats not quite correct most cvt's dont have a convertor as it un-necassarily increases weight, they instead opt for a "starter clutch" which is what allways fails in hondas. Mitsubishi and i believe also nissan are one of the odd ones that instead opt for a traditional convertor. A lock up or damper clutch is used for fuel efficency not applying initial drive
