mesure the battery with a multimeter when the engine is running should be 13.5 volt or so. if its not charging it be 12,6 or below volt

A lot of battery places offer a "free battery check", a alternator check is generally one of the test done.

what he says. also check batt light key on and goes out when started. If not there is a fault. However if there is a fault your car prob has an external regulator so diagnosing between that and alt can be a little bit more tricky.
