Altezza owners

sassygirls, Jan 29, 10:01pm
im looking at buying one,, are they a good car!
is there anything i need to look out for someone mentioned the battery and standard car radio. tia

they are well overpriced for year and specs. When the new IS250 and 350 Lexus' start coming into the country as Altezza's in the next few years the old Altezza's should plummit.

Great chicks car.
Shame they are so dated already.

Absolutely awsome car. I have owned 2 of them. They are hardly dated they look very nice esp considering the first ones came out in 1998. You just need to decide if you want the RS200(4 cyl 2.0 litre) which is the racier/faster motor, or the laid back cruiser AS200(6cyl 2.0 litre).

sassygirls, Jan 29, 11:39pm
oh man i cant even decide between an auto or manual at the mo.lol

andrea_w, Jan 29, 11:50pm
OP : If you buy the 4 cylinder version, please do NOT put an aftermarket exhaust on it. It turns them into a Honda Altezza - (think bumble bee in front of a megaphone).

hahah no chance of that.but thanks for the heads up.

they have issues with front lower ball joints ,if it comes out while driving you will crash , seem to fail lots on wof inspections

im on my 2nd altezza, the first was an RS200 sedan, went ok, only sold it to free up some cash back in 06 when they werent cheap, mid last year bought a altezza gita which is the station wagon type. the boot isnt huge but bigger than you would imagine when you look at it from outside. there are actually 3 engine options, the 4 cylinder 3S-GE engine, found in RS200 models, the 1G-GE or 1G-FE (sorry cant remeber), which is the 2 litre straight 6, very economical, but a bit gutless, and the 3 litre 2JZ-GE (similar to what is found in non turbo supras), which goes well but not too flash on gas- eg if you can get to 10km/litre on the open road you're doing well

My personal favourite is the 3 litre with the 5 speed auto that came out in 2002.The JCE10W model with the 3 litre 2JZGE motor in it, the same as in the non turbo Supra.Smooth and quiet as, with excellent power and economy for it's size.

The 2JZ-GE is only available in the Gita and IS300 not the Altezza.

I've had mine for 4 years now, and still love it. Ball joints can be an issue on 98 to 01 models, but once replaced will be fine. I've done 110 000 km in mine with no major issues.
