desertcolt07, Feb 2, 2:13am

scoobeey, Feb 2, 2:17am
Girls can do anything! Top apprentice when I was at kinlieth was a girl! way back many yrs she was a fitter turner.

bigjerry, Feb 2, 2:18am
never really needed one

rsr72, Feb 2, 2:22am
One of the best female mechanics, specialising in exotic performance cars, gave it up to become a policewoman, dammit.

g_k, Feb 2, 2:31am
I have been doing some thinking about starting my own company/workshop run by women, including female techs obviously. Anyone think an idea like that would take off! Just playing around with ideas at the moment.
Though I'm not sure many men would bring their cars in but I'm sure lots of women would!

scoobeey, Feb 2, 2:33am
You would be turning work away im sure

g_k, Feb 2, 2:34am
Not a gyno!

Totally agree with competence. Thats the key really

scoobeey, Feb 2, 2:35am
Competance as a Woman! Theres plenty of them around!potentials anyway

scoobeey, Feb 2, 2:36am
Meant woman mechanic

ric7, Feb 2, 2:46am
should be fine except for they will all go on strike once a month

ken_williams_nz, Feb 2, 2:50am
What should I think!THere are a lot of bloody hopeless male mechanics out there.

g_k, Feb 2, 2:58am
True.

There are also plenty of fantastic ones also, just gotta pick through the rubbish to find them

young female works at central ford Taupo, good trades person

yogibearz, Feb 2, 3:23am
they can do it just as well as men.The only problem i found was they are physically not as strong as men. They need to be pretty broad minded to work in a predominantly male enviroment.
Ask yourself this. who is the general manger of the Automobile Associations Technical Services !HER name is Stella Stocks.very capable lady.

g_k, Feb 2, 3:52am
Yes Yogi, you have got a point. This is the only thing I did struggle with. I guess physically we just don't cut the mustard but it was never had to find a guy that was willing to help. As for the predominantly male environment, well you get used to that. It's actually a lot more appealing the opposite. Man chat is very entertaining

ryans, Feb 2, 6:01am
Probably better on average than a male mechanic, since they'd have to be to get past the attitude that women don't know anything about cars.

roys351, Feb 2, 6:07am
i wouldent care as long as they know what they are doing its not easy to find honesty in any trade so i stick with the ones that i trust

zephyrheaven, Feb 2, 7:01am
upper body strength always lets them down, know a few lovely female auto sparkies mind you - couldnt fault em! i know when im beat & a huge breaker bar has a bend in it, I consider myself pretty strong - but humping around landcruiser transfer cases & lifting safari diff nuggets in is not easy - no matter how much you can bench

smac, Feb 2, 6:58pm
If you want to run a mechanical business staffed solely by women you may find yourself running smack into the Human Rights Act.

jsbike, Feb 2, 7:36pm
would you use a male midwife!

mecanix, Feb 2, 7:51pm
I have worked with a female mechanic. she was a frikkin good mechanic. she wasnt as strong as she needed to be, but i have worked with weak male mechanics as well.
