Took my car in for a service a month ago and the mechanic said he put an engine flush and new oil through the engine. I noticed a month later the oil is very black and very dirty. Should it be that colour after having a flush or was he just telling me mincy pies !

Black oil is the product of incomplete combustion not old oil.

Possible that the flush moved some sludge around that used to be lodged in place and is now floating around the engine.
New oil changes colour pretty much as soon as you put it in the engine anyway.I wouldn't worry too much.

I'd be worried.

How many km's have you driven/how hard have you driven it in that month! Did he say what viscosity oil he put in! What kind of car do you have!

Ah off the top of my head, honda accord stationwagon, about 200,000kms. Still runs well no real issues but I do realise at that level of Kms anything can happen.
