Holden T5 - gear oil or dex 3!

Should I fill my T5 with gear oil or dex 3! A mate told me they have fibre synchros in them and because of this need ATF or they are hard to shift. Just lookin for confirmation before I fill it.

Bump

the gearbox is still sitting in the boot of the car in new plymouth, so its not urgent.

If someone could chime in though, it would be apprectated.
Apparently its the same T5 that was in early 90s falcons, just with a different bellhousing, input shaft and tailshaft - so maybe some ford guys could chime in here!

Hi, I would put VMX (Gearbox oil - Castrol) in it. Also you could add some Lubrisol. (Dodgy name eh!). Or a 75w/90.
Fish.

Do not put gear oil in them. EVER. They require Dex 3. I highly recommend Castrol Transmax Z. Either that or fill it with Mobil 1 ATF and add some Lubrizol. Always fill a T5 with dex 3 ATF. I'm currently running Royal Purple MAX ATF, nice shifts but a bit noisier than the Transmax. Here is an incentive for you, Mal Wood automotive in Australia are Tremec specialists and they supply Transmax Z with all their T5's and Tremec trannys. Plus Transmax is loaded with Lubrizol already.

:-( Oh well, never mind me. Maybe the Sapphire Cosworth( T5 ) I had was not correctly lubed. I never filled it, but was told that's what was put in. Was sticky shifting though. Lubrizol is good stuff though.
