great cars. justa few things to look for.

tapping/fluttering noise from engine which is intake butterflies on the way out$$$$$$
also aux belt tensioner is problematic but cheap and VERY easy to replace.(rattling at idle)

check that it get s up to temperature on a long drive. thermostats tend to fail open meaning they don't get to temp properly

check tyre wear. they are a pain in the ar$e to wheel align CORRECTLY

do a hill start with the car a few times and check the clutch isnt slipping. an abused clutch once it starts to slip will just keep on slipping. Cost about $2000-2500 to replace clutch.

check seatbelts arent frayed, they seem to do this for some reason.

I bought an '02 manual Mondeo a bit less than a year ago and I am delighted with it. Mine is the sedan with duratec engine.
