Where do we find the fuse that controls the break lights and gear shift

Pretty sure there in behind the glovebox on them, or could be behind the dash on R/S . can't remember which year they swapped.

Behind the glove box is right, with a Zetec Mondeo

Should be able to squeeze the left and right sides of the glove box to release the side catches and drop the glove box down while its still on its hinges.

As jason said, push the sides in and it will pop out, then you can with a tap on the bottom pop it off its "hinge" for ease of access, then to refit just push them back onto the hinge and squeeze sides back in.
